How to Stop Rottweiler Digging

Imagine this: a picture perfect lawn, complete with bright, colorful flowers; lush freshly cut grass and the smell of dew as it shines under the morning sun. And best of all, it’s all yours. You wouldn’t want that to be ruined now, would you? Well, when you own a Rottweiler puppy (or any breed of puppy for that matter), that could be a problem because they could easily ruin your lawn by digging!

Does your Rottweiler exhibit this behavior? Don’t fret. Digging is a common problem that is hard to deal with at first. But with a little time and a lot of patience, you could stop Rottweiler digging.

First on the agenda: identify why your dog loves to dig. There are plenty of possible reasons: boredom, not enough exercise or play time, etc. Your dog may like burying bones. Or it could also be his way of trying to escape! Once you find the reasons behind his digging, the next step is to address the issue.

The best way to do so is by providing your dog with lots of mental stimulation. Try playing with your dog or teaching your dog a new trick every so often. Remember that a dog’s destructive behavior is, more often than not, caused by boredom. If your dog loves to bury bones, consider giving your dog another kind of treat. If you keep giving him bones, then his digging will obviously not stop! Stick to consumable treats such as dog biscuits. Dealing with your dog trying to escape is a different story, though. If this is the case, then you may have to supervise him as he plays out in your backyard.

To stop Rottweiler from digging may be a daunting task, but it is the best way to keep your lawn intact and both you and your Rottweiler healthy and happy.
