Some Common Rottweiler Health Problems

As the owner of a Rottweiler, it is your responsibility to educate yourself and be on guard against certain ailments that your Rottweiler may catch. This is so that you can prevent it altogether or give it immediate treatment so that it will not worsen. After all; an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure, and this is especially true with your Rottweiler’s health and well being. By educating yourself on common Rottweiler health problems you will save yourself the money, time and stress of going to the vet for treatments.

Rottweilers are susceptible to some certain health issues, just like other breeds of dogs and even their human owners. Common Rottweiler health problems include ear, eye, skin or even mouth infections are bacterial growths that are usually caused by foreign objects coming into contact with those sensitive parts. These ailments are the easiest to treat and to prevent; by simply practicing good grooming habits, you can prevent infections and of any kind. This will also help prevent allergies caused by fleas, another common health issue.

Some of the more serious diseases or ailments that you want to protect your Rottweiler from are Diabetes, Arthritis and Dysplasia. These are diseases that are not very new to us, since these are also common in humans. And when it comes to our canine companions, the steps to avoiding these diseases are quite similar to those that we ourselves have to take. Provide your dog with the proper pet food diet; avoid giving him table scraps and/or
food that is rich in sugar and fat. Give your dog enough exercise and play time. Also, since Rottweilers are prone to hip and joint problems (due to their large size), have your veterinarian examine your dog’s joints and bones at least once every year.
