Housebreaking A Rottweiler Puppy – Supervise but Do Not Scold Your Puppy

Rottweiler puppies are a bundle of joy, until you bring them home and find out that housebreaking a rottweiler puppy can mean having a whole house of a mess. But don’t let this discourage you from bringing home one because even as you have to do a lot of chasing and cleaning, your efforts will be greatly rewarded with real joy as your rottweiler grows to be a good house trained dog. The first thing you need to know about housebreaking a rottweiler puppy is that this creature has poor bowel and bladder control so that they do need to poop and pee several times a day, making accidents inevitable and a real possibility. For this reason, you should not let your puppy play around without your supervision where cleaning up could be very difficult to do. When playing with your dog, make sure that you do it where no piece of furniture or expensive carpeting that can be soiled. Puppies usually give telltale signs when they are at the point of pooping or peeing so watch out for behavior such as moving in circles, sniffing the floor, or sudden disappearance.

Scolding it when you catch it in the act of peeing or pooping is not the best way in housebreaking a rottweiler puppy. In fact, any dog trainer will tell you not to scold it and that swatting its behind with a newspaper will not work at all. What you have to do is either bring it outdoors where it can do its thing or move it to its “bathroom area”. It is important that you then completely clean the soiled area and eliminate any odor left because your rottweiler puppy may smell it later and come back to it to do the same thing. If you see your puppy peeing or pooping in its designated area, make sure you praise it and give it a reward. Feeding your puppy the same high quality food will help avoid diarrhea which could turn housebreaking a rottweiler puppy into a disaster.
