Learning Leash Training a Rottweiler

I’ve always found it hard to watch a puppy being put on a leash. One look at those cute little eyes and I just want to set him free! I’m sure you know that feeling. But before you get that collar off your pet, think twice. Keeping it on is actually very beneficial.

Leash training a Rottweiler puppy might seem harsh. But if you condition your Rottweiler to it while he is still a puppy, you will be able to prevent him from learning behaviors that would be difficult to control or discipline later in its life.

Leash training a Rottweiler is simple. The first thing you have to do is, of course, to get your dog used to wearing a collar. If your dog may struggle trying to remove it, be tolerant. It will take a while before he gets used to it. Simply make sure that he does not successfully remove the collar! And should the need to remove the collar arise, make sure that it is not because of something that your dog has done. Otherwise, your puppy may repeat the action in an attempt to get you to remove the collar.

Once your Rottweiler has grown accustomed to wearing his collar, attach the leash to the collar and just let him run around with it, but supervise your dog so that his leash won’t get caught in some object. Once he is used to the feel of the leash, get a hold of the end of the leash. Walk your Rottweiler around the house gently and loosen the leash so that you and your dog walk side by side. Stop for a while if he begins to tug and continue once he gets back to your side. Also, remember to offer praise and affection to your puppy as you go about training him. This will help reinforce what you are trying to teach him.
